The Long Con

For many years now we've been wanting a dog but living in a studio flat in the centre of Guildford it wasn't possible. Finally we relocated to Huddersfield, West Yorkshire and after a few months of gentle persuasion the search began.....

After contacting a couple of rescues the lovely people at NESSR contacted us and came out and did a home check. Like buses though these things all happen at the same time and South Yorkshire rescue all called to say they had a black and white Sprocker, 8 months old and did we want to go and meet him? Of course we leapt at the chance but waited at home all day Monday for the call to arrange the time, but as luck would have it things didn't work out that day and we had to rearrange for Thursday.

Having waited for what felt like the longest week ever Thursday finally arrived and we were awake way too early. Finally 10am came and we turned up at the kennels where Alison introduced us to Marley. What a sweetie he was. Now I'd done some reading before we went and it said that you should first have a look at the dog from a distance, does it run towards the front of the kennel to see you, does it hide away, does it bark and be aggresive?. Then you go closer but don't put your hands through and a good choice would be a dog that leans against the rails trying to get you to stroke it. Marley did all this and mor EXACTLY how he should so it started off hopeful. He was a lovely looking dog and we took him out for a walk around the site on the lead. He pulled a bit, that was expected, but he was just interested in everything around, having a good sniff and run. When we got back to the building he sat nicely next to us whilst we chatted, he said hello really nicely to another dog and generally he all round impressed.

They gave us some info on his background, he'd been guarding his stuff and he needed some training. We like him a lot, he seemed a perfect little specimen and we agreed to take him so we signed some paperwork and put him in the car

and then we got home.................
